Efficient HMEs and HMEFs protect from microorganisms and heat and moistures inhaled air for the patient.
AirLife® heat and moisture exchangers (HMEs) and heat and moisture exchangers with filters (HMEFs) are disposable medical devices designed to conserve heat and humidity in inhaled air, helping to maintain normal respiratory conditions and reduce the risk of complications. HMEs transfer heat and moisture from the patient’s exhaled air to the inhaled gases, supporting artificially ventilated patients during anesthesia or intensive care. They are placed between the artificial airway and the breathing circuit. HMEFs also include filtration capabilities that protect patients, healthcare personnel, and equipment from microorganisms in the breathing circuit, while reducing the need for cleaning and offering a convenient alternative to active humidifiers. All AirLife® products meet the requirements for adult and pediatric use in operating rooms, ICUs, and other respiratory care environments.
